ARE THEY REALLY NOTHING?

GOAL SETTING A college loving kid proving that he is not Nothing /Photo Courtesy /Tara Winstead Nothing? There comes a time in life when a kid has to grow up. And start making decisions. Life changing decisions for that matter. Decisions such as, going to college. And preparing for life’s biggest responsibilities. During this critical time. Parents are usually on the edge of their seats. They are on the edge because they are afraid of hearing some things. Kids have graduated high school and some have received invitations to some of the best colleges in the country. Parents in most occasions, want to keep the college conversation going. They want to talk about their kids’ college choices with their friends and neighbors. College conversation is a good conversation. Because most parents think that going to college is a window of opportunities. And to some extent it is, especially for those students who want to go to college. Kids that have already visualized the kind of professio...

Leader

There is a story of a man. A story, which has been told over millenniums. Yet, this story, remains as the most listened to story. The most interesting, entertaining, inspiring, engaging, and life-changing. It is the sweetest story of this century. The story is new every time it is told again. The man in the story is the story. People talk about him all over the world. They talk about the things he does and how he does them. It is inspirational how he handles things. There is justice in his court. He is a man of excellence. A person of integrity and a leader. The trait of being known as a leader, is perhaps what has kept this story traveling from one generation to the other. There is order where there is leadership. There is a sense of calmness.  Problems are solved. People are well managed. And they enjoy being in the presence of this man.  They feel respected and valued. They experience peace and prosperity under the leadership of this man.

A lot of good things happen when this man is in charge. So people who know him well, love him. They like being in his compound. People love everywhere he is. They want to be in the same environment as this man. The man is a leader and he takes his responsibility seriously. He is on top of the mind of people who care about him. People who love this man’s story want to talk about him to others. They want other people to know about him. The things he does and how his leadership skills come to life during the most turbulent times. He holds people together when they are falling apart. He provides solutions. No problem is too complex. He always figures out solutions to the most difficult situations. This is a man I will also want to know. If he can do all these things that people say he does, I also want him to do it for me. You can also develop interest in him. He could perhaps solve your problems too.

Influence

I can write a lot about the man in the story. But this post is not about the man in the story. It is about you and your life. The decisions you make every day. The choices you live. The things you do every day. How would you like to be remembered? From what I have just shared about the man in the story. You quickly realize that the man is very influential. He is in the minds of people who love his story. He has influenced several others to make life-changing decisions. His transformational leadership style has transformed the lives of many people. People remember him for the good things he has done for them. And one of the highlights for me, is how he has managed to remain relevant all these years. Fresh and sweet. Always interesting to learn about or discover. Always the hottest news in town. The smartest leader.

Can you manage to build such a reputation for years to come? How will people remember you? What are you known for in your community? How do you perform your duties and functions? Are you just? Are you a leader? Do people around you see leadership in you? Is your home, home? These are important questions, especially in this society. A lot of things happen and change in quick succession. You can easily lose your integrity and mind. You can lose your honor easily. You can be tempted anytime. People pretend a lot in this society. People you love can tempt you. People you know well and trust can betray you for short-term gains. These people could have full knowledge that things they are falling for are temporary, but still make the call to continue. They know you, but they still want to sell you to the devil.

Even you the person can surprise yourself. You might easily find yourself in situations you never imagined. But the temptations started with you approving one thing. And the rest just followed without you paying attention. The world we live in has so many distractions and destructions. You are only strong enough. Everything around you is always conspiring to bring you down. So, the story of the man in the story shows how the man in the story, works very hard to keep his cool. With all the disruptions taking place every day, it is hard to be a leader. Yet, he has prevailed for all these years. What keeps him strong or always focused? This is an important question. Make a decision to be what you want to become. If, you want to build a reputation such as, the reputation of the man in the story, make a decision to be a leader.

You don’t just become influential. You work for it. You create influence. You decide how you want to be known or perceived. Don’t go for favorable. There is nothing like favorable. You will always be who you are. The image that people have in mind about you is what they know about you. You might position yourself to be likeable, but likeable has an expiration date. You will get tired of acting. You will run out of strategies to remain favorable. Decide the kind of person you want to become. A just person or a dictator. A leader or a no purpose person. You decide all these things. The man in the story made a difficult decision. To be the most just person anyone can come across. You too, decide how you want to be remembered. If, you haven’t thought about it, take this as a good remainder. Find who you are and how you live your life.

Staying power

The staying power of the man in the story is his authenticity. He is a genuine person. He has always been a genuine person from the beginning. He has spoken his mind and put out expectations for people who love him. He tells them how he expects them to act. If, they truly love his story and want to be part of his growing community. You got to be truthful too if, you want to make any mark in your life time. You need to be honest with yourself, not anyone else. Don’t be honest to please. Be honest because that is what you want. Because honest is a good thing. And you feel that by you embracing this trait, you will be a good person. You will help people. You will do good to the world. You will be a wonderful leader. Your home will be home for real. Your office will serve for real. People will enjoy being around you.

You will thrive by being just you. Doing things that are you. The man in the story is doing things that are him. His leadership skills are worth a thousand claps and more. He knows how to lead. He learned how to lead. He trained to be a leader. He trained to provide solutions. He trained to deal with various emotions that different people bring to him. He positioned himself for the people. His leadership skills were optimized to handle the world and its demanding needs. He is fit for the job. He is the right person. Find your staying power and be good in what you do. Talk to your heart and mind. These two must yield to what you intend to become. They cannot work against you. You must make difficult decisions together. You must align to the same vision. Think about you and how you do things every day. Do you always get it right? If not, you got work to do. Staying power, determines how far you go or how influential you become. Learn from the best. Build something. Build a legacy.
