EPISODE VIII: EXCITEMENT IN THE CITY

By now, a lot of things have happened. I am very excited about several things. First, my life in the big city is turning out right. Life has surprised me with a twist I find interesting. Interacting with people at the center of the city is inspiring in its own right. You get to see a lot of people at the Central Business District of the city. These people are usually doing different things. Some of the things that they do are interesting while others are perplexing. A lot happen in the middle of a city in a typical day. The bursts of people running around doing different things and the busyness of the city are all interesting to watch. I love being in the middle of all these happenings. I see a number of people rushing. They are normally rushing to catch up with the next thing really fast. I wonder if, modern people really get enough time to think through issues.

I sometimes also find myself rushing. I am usually rushing to catch up with things that matter. I have made significant progress since joining the University. I have learned new concepts in my course. And I think the knowledge I have gained from the different units is helping me. So I am not the same person that enrolled in a course I did not think I would be pursuing at the University. Right now, I am leaning towards becoming a fully-fledged professional in my field of specialty. I sometimes move very fast because I have really important things to handle either in the classroom or the office. Perhaps, the people I see running in the city also have important tasks that keep them on their toes quite literally. All these things make me happy. The various things that I see every day in the city give me excitement.

The daily happenings not only thrill but also challenge me. But I am mostly excited because the big city represents possibilities. My mind always walks me through different versions of myself doing different things in the big city. I see myself using my multi-skills and experiences to serve real people. I get excited at these thoughts and scenarios. Further, I enjoy life most when I am doing different things at the same time. These activities keep me alive because they confirm some of my thoughts. When I successfully execute a function using the skills that I have learned, I know that I am making progress. That my education is finally serving its purpose in real life. Seeing these manifestations make me happy. The thought of finally becoming a qualified professional after school also brings me joy.

The second thing that gets me excited and inspired in the city is the combination of my experiences. Being an apprentice-turned-business professional tells a lot about my journey in the city. I feel humbled to see the journey that I have covered. Through the miles that I have covered, I see and feel power of resilience. The open-mindedness I kept from the beginning emerges. I have achieved a lot as a 19-year-old. I don’t even think there is a 19-year-old somewhere who shares the same milestones as mine. Starting out as a novice. Then getting training in a field you never thought you will ever consider in life. And enrolling in your out of dream course. These are my milestones and they stand stark with what I ever imagined myself doing as a young adult. I juggle life in two of the most competitive fields.

Business and school are both demanding. And yet in my somewhat awkward life, I have found a working balance. I am not stressed at all about these two activities. I am not stressed about working or taking my classes. Instead, I find great joy and pleasure running from one corner to the other. In most occasions, I catch myself always at the door. When I am done with the day’s classes, I am always at the door. I run to the office to finish off what I had on the day on my schedule. I’m not sure where I get the maturity and confidence to stay focused as a 19-year-old. But I love mixing the two worlds. The different functions that I serve in the two worlds keep be grounded and teach me a lot of things at the same time. I learn a lot about people and society. I also get to hear a lot of things as I transition from student to office.

I ensure that I keep my eyes open. I keep my eyes on the bulls-eye. I do not allow the side talks to get me off the pitch. The big city has granted me a rare opportunity. So I don’t play with my time and money. I make the most out of the limited time I have every day. In addition, I also want to test every skill and concept I have gained in the classroom. I will only achieve this desired outcome when I keep my eyes in the right places. In addition, I should know my priorities very well. And I should also know my boundaries. I have a job to do and classes to attend. I cannot waste my time. Instead, I should channel my energies and motivations in the right things. And this kind of thinking has been working for me. I have learned and gained a lot of insights. I am still ahead of my peers. My experiences connecting the corporate world and my education have remained sharp.

I have a lot of confidence in the direction that my life is taking. I have concluded that I will make a wonderful professional once I am done with my course. Going through all these things and the possibilities of the future brings me a lot of eagerness and hope. The big city has created a perfect atmosphere for me to succeed. The engineering company I work for is doing amazing. The opportunities that I have accessed are contributing so much in my life. Dealing with real problems and connecting those problems with the right solutions is teaching me great leadership skills. I have learned from the job that great leaders must be thinkers. You cannot make real progress if, you don’t think. You just cannot be any other thinker if, you are a leader. As a business leader, you must be a good thinker. Good thinking help real people grow.

Businesses operate in very competitive landscapes. Survival is not guaranteed. Only the best remain in business. The cut-throat competition demonstrates that you can easily get knocked out of your game any time. Therefore, there is no time to play or sleep. If, you must keep your place in the highly competitive marketplace. You should keep thinking. A business leader must remain loyal to solving problems. That is how successful businesses make progress. Nothing should be considered small or big. All problems are problems. A smart business leader cannot afford to ignore anything. You don’t sleep when things are working. A leader must remain vigilant. Things change very quickly in the contemporary marketplace. You turn your ahead just a little and when you turn back, things have changed. A competent business should never make such mistakes. Eyes should always be on the ball.

I have learned all these insights by observing operations around the company. Decisions must be swift and smart. If you take too long to think or change, you will come back to nonexistent world. So when I am on duty, I ensure that everything is covered. A business cannot crack under my watch. I also think a lot about the many things going on in life. I see what is happening in the market. Some businesses struggle, while others go out of business. Business owners work very hard to build industries and companies. However, when it comes to losing it all, it only takes one careless mistake. The fall usually happen very fast and it is attached to something that needed attention and was neglected. Therefore, when I am running operations in the company when everyone is busy somewhere, I look at everything. I go through financial reports. I check customer feedback. And I observe daily operations with a keen eye.

The vigilant eye always has an objective. I want nothing to miss my attention. I look at genuine complains with a lot interest. I look over all areas, which have been mentioned in the complaints. And I solve what I can solve. Problems that are beyond my control get redirected as soon as, possible. I ensure communication reaches relevant people on time. The painstaking observations that I make while working in the business are not meant to make me as a savior in the company. Instead, I make these observations to ensure the company stays on course. I do all this to also ensure that I remain at the top of the market. I want to remain connected to the market and what is happening in real life. I need that intelligence to shape my views and approaches as a person. I make sure that my eyes remain open whether I am at the Central Business District or the other side of the city.

I am always looking for joy and lessons in the city. After completing the entrepreneurship program, I was once enrolled in, everything about me changed. My thoughts and attitudes toward people and life changed. Now, everything seems important. I have remained alive in the moment ever since I went through the program. I am proud of myself that I pay attention to everything. I was once ignorant and I saw the games. I am growing up as a person and I would like to make a resourceful adult. They brought me to a big city. Exposed me to the corporate world. And even send me to the classroom. It is now my turn to show up. I would like to show up really big and well. I want nothing to miss my eyes. I would like to pay attention to my course and do justice to it. Further, I would also like to make real contributions to my place of work. And to put icing on the cake, I would like to make my own decisions. I would like to chart my own path away from everything that was placed in front of me. I have explored the big city and I would like to use the knowledge I have garnered to launch myself. I actually have an angle I would like to test. I would like to use this angle to transition from the business and classroom domains.

It will be awesome to watch myself make moves and decisions. That would prove worthwhile with change of time. The little milestones that I will make as a result of these decisions will also show that I am adulting up. The city has taught me a lot of things. I have learned about the business, people, and society. Different things usually happen in these three frontiers. You really need to have your own right position to make a good sense of everything in the triangle. And I believe that the angle I have developed or still developing will place me at the right position. I would like to get ahead and build something out of myself. And the big city is the center of my focus. I would like the city to give me the inspiration and reasons to dream big. Moreover, I would like the city to create opportunities that enhance and challenge me. That is why I see excitement in the city. The potential in the city promises a great life for me as a future professional.
